A Quick Word from the Authors:

With the talk of SXSW seemingly at the forefront of all online media surrounding tech and music it would be easy to miss many of the exceptional tunes that have been released within the past week. However coupling the love of tech and music, Austin has used SXSW to fuel itself into musical spotlight where artists such as The Octopus Project, Spoon and Explosions in the Sky have carried essential roles in development of the sound.

There is a lot to be said about a location that hosts shows from nearly every musical genre on a nightly basis so let's take a step back. Experiencing Austin can take two shapes; the spring festival SXSW which has been said to cause headaches with long lines and a gigantic influx of tourists from across the US, while on the other end we have a more relaxed vibe which plays host to showcasing international artists on the reg or at the renowned Austin City Limits festival. So, whether you are into the hustle and bustle or chilled-out scene Austin is a place that is worth experiencing.

With all eyes on Austin have there been any other music happenings within the past week? Of course, as with any other calendar week the one ending with the Daylight Saving switch featured a fair share of all-encompassing news. While we doubt you missed it, in case you did How To Dress Well let out the hushed PBR&B chune in "Words I Don't Remember". The Rapture, on the other hand will not be releasing new material anytime soon as the singers of such songs as "Get Myself Into It" and "How Deep Is Your Love?" have reportedly split according to their label DFA.  Despite it's close ties to the already popular The Hunger Games series Divergent seems to be coming to play, at least in terms of music where they have a long list of A-list artists featuring new material on their soundtrack including M83, Ellie Goulding and a collaboration of Tame Impala and Kendrick Lamar (listen to the full album via Pitckfork Advanced here).

So, without further adieu whether they are from an accredited producer or a yet to be discovered we have you covered with extended mixes of this weeks top songs.

– Aaron Thomas & Anna Murphy

The Indie Gift Basket

Overview

  • The Pasture Less is more — slow-churned nights need a soundtrack too, and relaxation is underrated.
  • The Kindle represents a peak of accessibility where the masses will be drawn to the raw energy exposed throughout.
  • Lastly, in The Tryptophan indie gets plugged. What ups the ante more than experimental electronics and synths?

The Pasture

The Pasture

Drawing from hushed textures the intersection between folk and translucent melodies can surprisingly be seamlessly navigated. So kick back, chill out or fall asleep – but be sure to stream the easy-going tracks below for the epitome of mellow. Highlights include Christopher Owens with his country, soulful and delicate song "It Comes Back To You" and an exceptionally fun, untamed story in "The Moss" by Cosmo Sheldrake.

The top forty that no one knows, the songs that you pop on that party playlist, the tracks you belt while driving 80 MPH on a dessert highway, or the jams you blast alone in your bedroom, rocking out with your socks on, solo style. Wherever you are, you’re in for a treat by way of indie beats. Highlights include MSMR's Zach NICITA venture in the right direction in his remix of "Transpose" and Great Good Fine Ok's sparkling indie pop anthem in "Not Going Home".
