New York's Boy Jr. has caught our ears this year with their witty, alt-pop bangers chronicling that dreaded event in life, the breakup. With a series of singles released that detail all the emotions and events that come with this monumental life change, Boy Jr. brings an authenticity and relatability to music. The artist is also a social media influencer, with millions of fans tuning in to see their next wild post. Now they have shared their highly anticipated new album I Love Getting Dumped! for the world to hear. The new album showcases 13 songs with a variety of sounds and genres including alt rock, indie pop, electronica and more. Boy Jr's creativity is on full display with melodic hooks, thrilling beats and colorful vocal hues. Gritty guitars, electrifying rhythms and candy-coated synths are also highlights to this must listen to album.

We chatted with the multimedia artist and musician on their new album, sense of humor and what sparks their creativity. Just like their new album, the conversation is full of surprises.

Hi Boy Jr. thank you for chatting with us. Congratulations on your new album I Love Getting Dumped! Can you tell our readers more about the overall theme of the album?

Thanks for chatting with ME! I Love Getting Dumped! is a collection of 13 breakup songs I wrote at different points over the last 4ish years. It touches on a variety of feelings experienced over a variety of relationships and is thus pretty stylistically diverse as well.

How does this new body of music differ from your previous releases?

This is the first body of music I’ve released where all the work fits one common theme. I also think it just shows some of my most imaginative production work, but I guess I also think my older releases were imaginative, for when I wrote them too.

What are three words you would use to describe the album?

Maximalist, emotional, fun.

Do you have a favorite moment or song on the album and if so why?

Favorite moment is probably the big distorted bass sounds on "thrw me out a wndw", and then "Lost And" is a top fave song cuz it’s the longest song i've ever released and "I’m Not Pretty" cuz it’s the saddest.

You often add humor and wit to your music. Sometimes even around serious subjects. Does humor help you in the healing process?

Yes, without the humor I’d have nothing haha

I Love Getting Dumped! features a fresh sonic fusion that includes elements of alternative pop, rock, electronic and more. What are some of your musical inspirations and any of them play a part in the music you create?

Well first of all thank you! I think I take in everything I hear, even stuff that I don’t seek out. But I feel inspired by any artist who gets a little experimental with it, anything with a driving or distorted beat, and anything with fuzzy guitars.

What do you hope listeners take away from the new album?

I hope it provides a sense of catharsis and relatability. And also just a sonic world to escape into.

What currently inspires you creatively?

Always just toying with different sounds and interesting rhythms. I really want to write more about the experience of how we perceive each other online and all that and write more songs to be hot and confident to cuz I’ve never done that hahaha

Finally, what's next for Boy Jr.?

Bonus tracks for this album (I literally got dumped AGAIN like a week after the album came out). Tour dates (I already have a mini tour announced for New York State). More collaboration.
