Over the past few years, the music industry has been graced with the emergence of Afrobeats and Amapiano, two genres that have taken the world by storm. Among the talented artists who have risen to prominence is Tyla, a Johannesburg songstress with a sound and style that is truly her own. For Tyla, being an artist is a lifelong commitment beyond a single or album release. She believes her talent deserves recognition beyond the borders of South Africa, and her goal is to share her work with the world.

After captivating listeners with her seductive smash hit “Water,” the 22-year-old Johannesburg songstress establishes her place in the music industry with the extended version of her self-titled debut album, Tyla+. With the addition of three new tracks and guest appearances from fellow South African artists Tony Duardo, Optimist, and Maestro, the 22-year-old Johannesburg songstress continues to establish her place in the music industry with the extended version of her self-titled debut album released on March 22, 2024.

The album's deluxe version continues to showcase an experimental sound, fusing Amapiano beats with pop and R&B while highlighting her graceful tone, vibrant demeanor, and melodic notes that she consistently conveys through her lyrics. Further bringing Amapiano themes to captivate listeners' ears, the new album opens up with “SHAKE AH” featuring DJ/producer Tony Duardo and singers Optimist and Maestro. It continues with “Push 2 Start” and Tyla’s R&B and pop blend titled “Back To You.”

Tyla - TYLA + (Plus) Lyrics and Tracklist | Genius

During its initial release, Tyla stated that her album tells a story of her journey and experiences in the music industry. The album contains elements of African culture, especially in the beats and lyrics of the songs. Overall, the deluxe version of Tyla's album incorporates more for listeners to enjoy its fusion of different genres, showcasing her versatility as an artist. The album received widespread praise for its unique sound and relatable lyrics.

Each track on Tyla's debut album is a testament to her versatility as an artist. She effortlessly transitions between different vocal flows and tones, all while staying true to her unique style. But what truly sets her apart is her ability to infuse her music with her personal experiences and emotions, creating a heartfelt journey that listeners can deeply relate to. Overall, Tyla+ showcases her versatility as an artist with its fusion of different genres, exhibiting a promising start for Tyla’s career and setting the bar high for the current state of music.

Up next for Tyla, she is set to perform at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in New York City. The event will stream live at 7 p.m. ET across Victoria’s Secret’s Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and on Amazon Live and Prime Video. Furthermore, she'll share the stage with Cher and LISA as part of an all-female lineup, marking a first for the show. Tyla has also joined the 2024 Coke Studio roster alongside artists like Usher, Peggy Gou, NewJeans, and Karol G. As part of this partnership, she’ll perform in her hometown of Johannesburg and debut a new song created for Coke Studio live. Be sure to stream Tyla+ on all digital streaming platforms, and for more news, releases, and announcements, be sure to follow Tyla on Instagram and X.
