Romance Takes the Spotlight in Midnight Pool Party’s BOYS LIKE YOU

Australian dance duo Midnight Pool Party capture the electrifying magic of early romance in their latest single, "Boys Like You". With a blend of disco grooves, R&B, and subtle K-pop influences, the track invites listeners to take themselves to a time when they were in the initial stages of romance, exploring the vulnerability and giddiness that we experience…

“This is a story of flirtation and the exciting tension of early attraction,” says Darren Morilla, one-half of the duo. The lyrics shine with this sentiment, balancing the confidence of “playing hard to get” with the authenticity of genuinely falling for someone. “It’s meant to be fun because courtship and those early days of getting to know someone can be thrilling,” Darren adds, a statement that is reflected in the track’s upbeat nature and infectious melodies.

However, this song isn’t just about meeting someone and the thrill that comes with it, it’s also introspective and celebrates queer relationships, whilst encapsulating that love is a shared feeling we can all relate to, regardless of sexuality. Darren reflects, “The song is about a boy crushing on another boy, and I worried it might limit our audience. But the fact that I even stopped to think about it felt ridiculous. Love and attraction are universal feelings.”
